Middle Peninsula residents are invited to participate in a brief survey designed to strengthen and expand regional commuting options through the MidPenRideShare program.

Now open, the 25-question online survey takes only a few minutes to complete and will remain available until May 15, 2026. As an added incentive, participants who complete the survey may choose to enter a drawing for a $250 VISA gift card.

The Middle Peninsula continues to experience one of the highest outbound commuter rates in Virginia, with approximately 77% of the local workforce traveling outside the region for employment. Understanding how and why residents commute is essential to building transportation solutions that better serve the community.

Survey responses will provide valuable insights into commuting patterns, challenges and preferences. This feedback will help refine and expand MidPenRideShare services and related transportation initiatives across the region.

MidPenRideShare is a free program that promotes carpooling, vanpooling, biking, public transit and teleworking as cost-effective and convenient commuting options. By registering, commuters gain access to a statewide ridematching network that connects individuals traveling along similar routes, making it easier to coordinate shared rides and reduce transportation expenses.

Residents are encouraged to complete the MidPenRideShare survey before May 15, 2026  to share their feedback and enter for a chance to win the $250 VISA gift card.

MidPenRideShare is a free service operated by the Middle Peninsula Planning District Commission for residents, workers, commuters, and tourists in Virginia’s Middle peninsula (Counties of Essex, Gloucester, King and Queen, King William, Mathews, and Middlesex and the towns of Tappahannock, Urbanna, and West Point).
The Commission has partnered with the Virginia Department of Rail and Public Transportation (DRPT) and their Virginia-wide ConnectingVA program to provide free ridematching to find carpools, vanpools, and all forms of public transportation, trip planning, and information on park-and-ride lots, bike share services, electric vehicle charging stations, and rewards.
