I can’t carpool to work. What if I’m the passenger and the driver has to leave early for an emergency? Or what if I’m the driver and my boss makes me stay late?
Sound like something you might say?
Good news! MidPenRideShare guarantees you will get a free ride home if you live or work on the Middle Peninsula. What’s called the Guaranteed Ride Home program, available every day of the year, 24 hours a day, ensures that those who carpool or vanpool to work always have a way to return home. The service covers unexpected work requirements that force overtime, family emergencies and unexpected illnesses.
Commuters must officially register with the MidPenRideShare Guaranteed Ride Home service before using it. You will know you are officially registered when you receive an official registration letter. There is a one-time exception rule to use the program for those who meet all the eligibility criteria but have not officially registered and find themselves needing a ride home from work. Any commuter granted a one-time exception must be officially registered before additional GRH trips are granted.
Registered commuters may use the service four times annually from their official registration date. Commuters must re-register annually to update their information. Trips must originate from your place of employment.
MidPenRideShare and the Guaranteed Ride Home program are provided by the Middle Peninsula Planning District Commission. The Middle Peninsula region includes the counties of Gloucester, Essex, King and Queen, King William, Mathews and Middlesex and the towns of Tappahannock, Urbanna and West Point.
Scheduled medical appointments, personal errands, transit service disruptions and/or delays, business-related travel, working late without a supervisor’s request, weather emergencies and buildings closings and evacuations are not reasons to use the Guaranteed Ride Home program.
Of course, when you carpool or vanpool to work, you’re saving money on grass and helping the environment. You also earn rewards from MidPenRideShare.
